Madam C.J. Walker was the first self-made American female millionaire and one of the first African-American millionaires. She worked 18 years as a washerwoman in St. Louis then soon created products from mixing soaps and shampoos. These products were especially for African-American skin and hair. She first sold her products door to door then she began training a group called “agent-operators. “ Walker taught these agents her methods and soon employed about 2,000 agents. The key to Walker’s success was that she prided her work on helping others by encouraging them to open beauty salons and other businesses and also telling her agents to stay involved in the African American community. Madam C.J. Walker left a lasting legacy for female entrepreneurship.

In the 1980s as a part of free trading in the market of money and goods many jobs in the United States were moved overseas for lower wages. Although the global movement of business is good for economic development it has also caused a lot of trouble in some categories. Child labor, terrorism, and a slow moving U.S. economy could be mentioned when discussing these issues for those on the loss end. The fact is that with the outsourcing of white-collar jobs to other countries it is proven that businesses are looking for places where they can save money and have better advantages when it comes to carrying out their business plans. Therefore; it is proven that too many regulations in regards to businesses can yield to economic trouble and a means for businesses to look elsewhere for development.

Many of the ethics taught in business today derive from ancient philosophy. Immanuel Kant is one of the predominate philosophers that you will hear about in a business ethics class. Kant believed that pure reason could reveal the absolute universal truths of ethics. Much of today’s ethical facts are bound by reasons of what we feel may be right and wrong. There are still many questions as to what makes sense in business ethics because of what many humans are taught as children. Some even believe that ethical decisions derive from a genetic pattern. The foundation of ethics was built on the grounds of such philosophers like Immanuel Kant who did believe that there was a sense of conscience when using divine intervention in ethics. Immanuel Kant was born in 1724 and died in 1804. He never left East Prussia during his lifetime. Kant’s work was based on reason and its limits. His work includes Critique of Pure Reason, The Foundations of the Metaphysics of Morals, and Critique of Practical Reason all written in the late 1700s and still used in business ethics today.

The stock market can have benefits for some. Many know about Warren Buffet but they do not understand his story. Warren Buffet was introduced to money managing by his father. He then as a young boy operated several paper routes and saved up to 6,000 dollars. While in college Buffet took on some business ventures and by the age of 11 Buffet had already purchased his first stock. Buffet was successful at this experience from purchasing three shares from a company called Cities at $38 a share that later appreciated and peaked at $200 per share. Warren Buffet was not successful because he invested; he was successful because he understood how to invest. Even investors will tell you that the art of investing is not easy it takes understanding of the market. In present time investing is still a major part of the global market and world events. Making the right investment may mean you have to do your research. It is also important to learn from others such as Warren Buffet. His methods are still being used today. The business fact is that you must understand the market when investing and be prepared to loss or make gains when participating.

Darlyne Lopez was employed by Merrill Lynch and handled the cash the brokerage firm brought in. She was highly trusted, never took a vacation and never missed a day of work. When Lopez was in an auto accident it was revealed that she had been embezzling up to $600,000 of the companies deposits. Lopez did this for five years by using a well known deposit scheme. When safeguarding assets companies follow strict guidelines when handling assets for example they my switch out cashiers on a schedule or use strict supervision rules. Merrill Lynch could have avoided this mishap if they would have used some strict safeguarding rules. The Foreign Corrupt Practices Act orders all companies under SEC regulations to maintain internal controls, which is also regulated under the Sarbanes-Oxley Act of 2002.

Working in high school at a local pizza shop John Schnatter liked the pizza business. John soon worked his way through college making pizzas. After graduating from Ball State University with a business degree John would be faced with his first business adventure. John’s father was facing a 64,000 dollar business debt. John soon took over by selling his car to buy some restaurant equipment knocked down some walls and began selling pizzas to his father’s customers helping his father’s business. This helped John develop the food chain of pizzas you see today called Papa John’s pizza first opened in 1985 and is the fastest growing pizza company in the United States.

The Chinese Three Gorges Dam will always be one of the greatest projects in history. Conceived in the 1920’s the dam was built to control the flooding of the Yangtze River. An estimated 300,000 people have died because of these floods. The dam was started in 1994 it stretches 1.5 miles wide and has a height of over 600 feet. The dam stores 51.4 billion cubic yards of water and raises the current level of the Yangtze River to 570 feet above the dam site. The dam is generated by two power stations which generate 18,200 megawatts of electricity. Employing 18,000 workers daily this is the world largest dam. It took 134 million cubic yards of earth and stone and 35.5 million cubic yards of concrete to build the dam. Being estimated to cost 73 billion, building this dam went down in history as the most expensive project in history. Although there were many disadvantages to this type of project the fact remains that business project management takes a lot of planning and is very important to accomplish a mission. The methods of project management take massive amounts of time and money. You can see the results just by taking further review on the building of the Three Gorges Dam.

The U.S. government helped out by giving them a much needed loan. Iaccoca took control by demanding better quality and streamlined development as eyes were on his company. Iaccoca was committed to fix the problem. Sales soon rebounded, morale sparked up, and Iaccoca soon had the money to pay the government back. The fact is that even leaders have a method and Iaccoca’s method was successful.

Companies that are high leveraged rely on debt to finance their operations. This strategy only works well when business is going good, but once buisness slows down its hard to pay the debt. Relying on debt can force a company into bankruptcy quick. In the 1980s Donald Trump made this mistake because he didn’t want to give up managerial control by selling stock when he needed money to operate his business. Banks knew who he was so they lent him money but when the economy took a down turn in the late 1980s trump couldn’t pay up. Trump had to use a sheding method so he shed his real estate to pay the debt. This method of selling his real estate worked as Trump recovered and began to expand again in the 1990s. The business fact is that if you have the money use it to operate your buisness. Try to stay away from debt.

Their approach was a new revolutionary way of project management. The project that revolutionized this era was known as the Skunk Works. The rules were simple and to the point and the philosophy innovated and sparked a new wave on how operations were conducted in not only the military but also the world of business. this was a really quality post. In theory I'd like to write like this too - taking time and real effort to make a good article... but what can I say... I procrastinate a lot and never seem to get something done.
