Paul Orfalea’s partnership strategy dilemma and the regrouping power of Kinko’s

At the age of 22 Paul Orfalea borrowed money to start a copying service near the University of California, Santa Barbara. Paul operated his business in a very small store, a store so small that he had to roll his coping machine out of the room onto the sidewalk. Kinko’s soon grew with almost 815 stores with partnership spanning to 130. Paul adopted the name Kinko’s because of his reddish curly hair. The fact that Paul faced partnership problems because many companies held the name but did not match forced the driving forces to regroup and come up with a corporate structure. Paul’s first methods of using partnerships that were not uniform almost got the company in trouble but with the regrouping of his team of business leaders he was determined to get it right. Kinko’s used the corporate structure to advance their future potiential in the market. The fact remains that regrouping and changing to a more favorable strategy can make a big difference in the building structure of many companies. Paul found something that worked.

Paul Rusesabagina a business manager in Rwanda faced with an impossible task

In 2004 a historical film was released called Hotel Rwanda but the story has a lot to do with the power of a Business leader. When facing Genocide in 1994 Paul Rusesabagina was on the job at the hotel and had to face some impossible challenges. He had to direct a staff and bring people together to save lives in the event of war. Paul did not found the hotel but he became a leader when he did not expect it. It has always been a debate about if leaders are born or made. The fact is that there is divine nature in some cases in regards to leaders. Rwanda was worth nothing to politics but Paul as a leader helped this country be remembered. He used no bias but good will and the fact remains that business is a team effort that many times involve leaders believing in the impossible and when Paul’s back was against the wall he had to face the impossible and use many methods to save lives. The fact is that he did it and he made an impact on the lives he saved and to this day gives people hope when faced with the impossible. The fight was between the Hutu and Tutsi tribes and Paul was the manager of Sabena Hôtel des Mille Collines. Paul was Hutu which was the tribe leading the Genocide and his wife Tatiana was Tutsi. Paul as a Hutu did the impossible.

Public Relations Society of America and what their membership can do for you

Public Relation is an important part when managing a business. It requires that all employees have a voice within the work place and that they have someone to turn to. When an employee needs to know what it will take to get training or the like in regards to new positions on the work team public relations must manage this kind of ordeal. www.prsa.org is a very inclined site when it comes to public relations. PRSA was chartered in 1947 the organization provides professional development, sets standards of excellence and they maintain ethical standards by promoting the principles of ethics. The website has news for the public in regards to public relations case studies, they have many education opportunities, and they provide membership information. PRSA’s methods and facts are based on the process that the company uses to build businesses and professionals. The company exemplifies the e-market by providing ways to improve and provide public relations for all of its members.

Bill Gates and his devotion to improve the world with goodwill

Microsoft was established from 1975 to 1994 it started with William Henry Gates III leaving Harvard University and moving to Albuquerque, New Mexico where he would found Microsoft. Gates after gaining billions and being one of the world’s wealthiest men figured he would use his power for good. Good methods of business leaders have trickled down from his work. Gates has positioned computers to be in every home. He has donated large amounts of money to various scientific research programs better known as the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. The non-profit organization was founded in 2000 which gave Gates the incentive to step down from CEO to work full-time at the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation. These types of acts can be seen as heroic due to the facts of goodwill. Gates utilized his power for the good of all mankind. Being a leader and an entrepreneur often requires good intentions. Gates is an example that it can be done while also impacting the world of computers.

The Costly Boston “Big Dig” Project that seemed to last a lifetime better known as Boston’s Artery/Tunnel Project

In 1959 Boston opened its Central Artery highway, the highway was six-lanes and elevated through the middle of the city. The highway was intended to carry a traffic volume of 75,000 vehicles on a daily basis. Well in the early 1980s the Central Artery highway faced a daily volume of over 200,000 vehicles. The city of Boston faced the worst congestion in the country with an increased accident rate. In regards to such a problem business and city officials had to come up with a solution, so they came together and developed the Central Artery/Tunnel project known in Boston as the “Big Dig.” This project included two very distinctive elements, which included replacing the elevated roadway with an eight-to-ten lane underground expressway under the existing roadway. The roadway had to be 14-lanes with two bridge crossings over the Charles River and they had to extend I-90 through a tunnel beneath South Boston while stretching to Logan Airport. The project was a headache for nearly 20 years. They employed up to 5,000 workers creating the construction of an 8 mile highway, 161 lane miles, stretching almost halfway below the ground. They had to excavate soil of up to 16 million cubic yards with a grand total of 3.8 million cubic yards of concrete. They had to complete this project without disrupting the traffic pattern on a day-to-day basis. The project increased its budget every year as it went on from 1980 to 2003 escalating all the way to 14.5 billion dollars. When the “Big Dig” was complete before it was considered bankrupt by a federal audit team the company who planned the project had lawsuits streaming from certain authorities for poor project management. The business fact remains that planning a projects cost is an important step that can get out of hand and create some unethical decisions just to get the job done. In this case the project needed to be approved and the state wanted to know was this project underestimated on purpose. This method of planning cost billions and will go down in history as one of the most under planned cost estimates projects ever. Campbell Soup

Joseph A. Campbell and Abraham Anderson founded Campbell’s Soup in 1869, in that day they were icebox manufacturers. Anderson left the company in 1896 which was then a partnership. Campbell reorganized a whole new Campbell’s and renamed it Joseph Campbell and Co. Campbell got a jump on things when in 1897 Dr. John T. Dorrance started working for the company and developed a method for condensing soup. Herberton Williams soon followed by convincing the company to product a cherry red and white color scheme. In regards to the makeover Campbell soon became the largest food company in the world under the leadership of William Beverly Murphy. The method of understanding your products and using a creative appeal not from the driving force but from others involved can create a name that can last a lifetime. Skunk Works was a World War project that revolutionized project management

After World War II and in between that era the U.S. and Soviet Union were racing for research in developing defense technology for the government. Their approach was a new revolutionary way of project management. This was the intent of a new area of planning missions and a new way for organizing operations; these new methods of project management are still in place today and have changed the way business is conducted. The project that revolutionized this era was known as the Skunk Works. The rules were simple and to the point and the philosophy innovated and sparked a new wave on how operations were conducted in not only the military but also the world of business. The fact is that projects have to be planed and approached sometime from a level of simplicity the merges into a complex environment.

Laurel Touby makes the way for the future of an emerging online market

Laurel Touby purchased the domain name www.Hireminds.com in 1998 for her job listing network. Her site began to thrive. She was charging $100 per ad from national clients. She purchased all of the domain names like hers and soon trademarked. The fact is that she grew her domain name because she started an online business. Purchasing an online domain name is an important part of growing your online business. The domain name can end in .com, .org, .net, or .gov each name depends on your organization and business purpose. Through Laurel’s methods the fact remains that any domain name can be successful with work. Laurel worked hard and was successful.

Donald Trump, the high leverage issue and how he solved the problem

Companies that are high leveraged rely on debt to finance their operations. This strategy only works well when business is going good, but once business slows down its hard to pay the debt. Relying on debt can force a company into bankruptcy quick. In the 1980s Donald Trump made this mistake because he didn’t want to give up managerial control by selling stock when he needed money to operate his business. Banks knew who he was so they lent him money but when the economy took a down turn in the late 1980s trump couldn’t pay up. Trump had to use a shedding method so he shed his real estate to pay the debt. This method of selling his real estate worked as Trump recovered and began to expand again in the 1990s. The business fact is that if you have the money use it to operate your business. Try to stay away from debt.

Lee Iaccoca and his new vision for the Chrysler Corporation

Lee Iaccoca took the leadership role as Chrysler Corporation was in deep trouble. The company was facing years of losses and cost-cutting because the company was not competitive. The U.S. government helped out by giving them a much needed loan. Iaccoca took control by demanding better quality and streamlined development as eyes were on his company. Iaccoca was committed to fix the problem. Sales soon rebounded, morale sparked up, and Iaccoca soon had the money to pay the government back. The fact is that even leaders have a method and Iaccoca’s method was successful.
